Great name for a CD !! We'll set up a merch table and sell 'em (in theory) at the Green Door. Actually, Eric has the equip to record a pretty high quality CD. We did it once at his house, but didn't do much of anything with the CD. About 4 songs or so, as I recall. Or I guess we could go somewhere and pay to record. It would be fun. Someday, maybe.

First of the New Calves & WIllis Ramsey

Dan called today (Sept. 23, 2009) to report that we've had our first calves of the season. 2026 (on Sat. the 19th) and "O" (on Tues. the the 22nd) both had baby calves. Mother and baby doing fine. 2 of Dan's cows also had calves. I had gotten and early report of calves on the ground from Julie last weekend, but now it's confirmed-they belong to Triple N.

Dan says it continues to rain and the hay meadows look great.

Dan is going to take our 3 heifers for Bangs vaccination soon. If it stops raining he'll also have them dehorned. (For you uninitiates, you can cut off their horns when there's risk of rain, 'cause the hole in their heads will fill up with water, causing serious infection. Since we don't want to have to turn these heifers upside down to drain the water out, we'll wait on the dehorning 'til there's a stretch of dry weather. So, likely we won't have to wait long.

By the way, I think "First of the New Calves" would be a great name for The Berliners first CD.

Just heard, again, that Willis Ramsey will be releasing a new CD "before the end of the year". For sure, this time. It will be called "Gentilly" . Report on KGSR says he's serious this time, as he's signed with an agent.

Labor Day weekend '09

Had a large group at the Rancho this weekend-Punk, Dean, Julie, Laura Lee and Mark, Kyle, Laura, Blake and Leigh. Plus 4 dogs.
Good to have Julie in Texas, again. We missed Bronwyn, Ailie, Mike and John. Temperatures cooled nicely-highs in the mid-90s, and Saturday had a good bit of cloud cover and cooled off well in the evening.

Saturday, Dean mowed Punk's pasture and Dean and Kyle started checking fence around the Back 40. Found a large break where cows had escaped 3 weeks ago and repaired that. Got Mark's help on Sunday, but it took through Monday morning to get all the way to the Northwest corner, but the fence is up all the way now. Dean and Kyle also worked over the fences between Nonnie's Pasture and Little House and Plum Patch to make sure the cows don't try to get into the hay meadows before it's cut again.

On Sunday we completed the Mow-a-thon by mowing Nonnie's Pasture and the Central Pasture. Tractor spit and sputtered occasionally, but it made it.

Mark and Dean purchased and installed a drip irrigation system with 4 drops for the orchard. Works great. Each drop exudes 2 gallons per hour. Leigh painted a sign that says "Lorrayne's Orchard" and we installed it on the corner of the orchard.

Mark did killer fried catfish and french fries on Saturday. Kyle, Dean and Laura worked on Green Door songs Saturday night during second half of Texas game with ULM. (Julie thought they were playing the little town towards LaGrange! We had hamburgers on Sunday night after all the crew, save Punk and Jules, spent an hour at the Green Door.

Dean negotiated a date at the Green Door for The Berliners-November 14.

Laura and Leigh reworked the beds by the Cantina and the circle where the tree stump for the hammock was-keeping a tribute to Megan. They also cleaned up the Cantina and around it. Good work!

Dan is going to take our 3 heifers to the Vet for dehorning, Bangs Vaccine and worming.

A good weekend-very fund and we got a lot done.
