Got to Brenham early Saturday. Beat Punk to the house. Went to the bank and PO and stopped at Washington County Tractor to check out used tractors. The guy that helped me guessed my last name after I told him we had a MF 165 out at Berlin. Turns out, he worked for Duckworth-Tiemann when we bought that tractor in 1986. He remembered the tractor. Said some Exxon guy from Houston had it originally and insisted on it being gasoline rather than diesel. Looked at two tractors, a Zetor and a Massey.
I pieced together a full hay ring from parts of other beat up ones, and walked the fence along the road in Punk's pasture to put staples back in the wire. Took a lot of staples. Also, I re-hung the gate into the alley that Dan uses from mill creek road and set a post for it to rest on while closed.
Got Dad some gumbo for lunch yesterday and burgers last night. He seemed to be better from last weekend, much more alert and active. But, he stayed inside all day yesterday because the cold front blew in. he only went outside to move his water. Yesterday afternoon I took him down to the creek fence. he had never seen the cleared brush area along that fence. I got him a stick to walk with and we walked a about half of it. He really thought that was neat and was pleased we had done that clearing and that the fence was in such good shape. Then II took him to drive around the farm and see the cattle. He wanted to drive down the old road through the woods, but we could only get about 40 yards in when we got to a tree across the road so backed out. But, we really enjoyed getting out and about again.
That's the report from the Rancho.
