Sunday Morning - Fence Crossing the little creek that runs behind the tank on Little House Pasture

Valentines Weekend 2010

Dean, Mike and I were in Brenham this weekend. Dad did pretty good all weekend, but he got a little unsteady as we were walking back into Kruse yesterday. I think he was trying to go too fast thinking he was holding me up. I did get Mom's old walker out of the attic, cleaned it up and left it by the piano. I'll mention it to him next weekend.

We watched a lot of Olympic coverage, which Dad enjoyed. He enjoyed the entry of the athletes at the Opening Ceremonies and seeing all the costumes. He also liked the short Track skating.

Dean, Mike and I worked hard about 5 hours on Saturday and about 2 1/2 on Sunday repairing the old fence on the north side of the little house pasture along the Railroad ROW. I think the Little House Pasture is tight now. Look for photos on the blog. Very wet in Brenham.

And that's the news from the rancho.

P.S

I think im gettin' too old - that was as hard fence work as i can remember doing for a while. For every foot of fence we musta cleared two feet of brush - thick yupon trees, grape vines, and sticker vines. Thanks to Ranch Hand Mike. Kyle and I crashed Saturday when we got back to the house and then played some nice guitar, mostly without guides, which I really enjoyed. Just the interplay, listening and following each other. We had some good moments.

January 9, 2010

I went to Brenham today, just for the day. Julie was there with Punk.

I got Dad's truck inspected. Dan told me this week that he came once to find the cows in the North half of the Heifer Pasture, but couldn't find how they got in there. I suspected that they went through the old fence along the railroad ROW from the Little House Pasture and then into the Heifer Pasture through the old railroad fence along the north side of that pasture. I walked the old railroad fence today from the gate on Mill Creek road all the way to the fence between the Heifer pastures and the Little House pasture and found about 4 places where the fence was completely down. I cleared and completely rebuild a stretch of about 45 feet that began at the wire gap on the road in from Mill Creek road. There are about 3, maybe 4 more places where we need to clear, tear down the old fence and rebuild. most are only 15-20 feet stretches. I think we need to address these before we get back to the fence between SC 1 and SC 2. The fence seems to be find from the creek behind the tank to the fence between SC1 and SC2, it's just the part from the wire gap to the little creek behind the tank that needs attention.
